2006 09 01 Cabinets in Progress

Here are some snaps of the cases for the kitchen cabinets in progress. The kitchen design as well as the cabinets are being done by Berkeley Mills.

This machine is being used to make the cases for all the cabinets. It is basically a huge numerically controlled milling machine. It can drill holes, route channels, and cut, and is extremely precise. I was surprised to learn that all the milling is done in a sheet before it is cut into pieces. The first snap is the computer console that is used to operate the machine. In the second shot the operator is setting up vacuum blocks near the zero stops on the bed of the machine. Once the work piece is held down by the vacuum is it essentially impossible to move. I tried. The second to last shot shows some of the case pieces for our cabinets.
